The Sabbath

“ In the beginning God () created the heaven and the earth,... on the seventh day God rested from all his work which God created and made.” Genesis 2:2-3. The SABBATH's sanctity is grounded in the rest that was taken by the living God. The SABBATH is first a day of rest, and a day to make God our primary focus.

What do the scriptures say about 's day?

red sea crossing pointAs Israel travelled ; prior to their arrival at Sinai (and receiving the law on tablets of stone); we read in Exodus 16:2 " hath said , tomorrow is the rest of the holy SABBATH unto In verse 28 “And said unto Moses, How long refuse ye to keep my commandments and my laws?” \s commandments had been violated and refused for many generations, not just for a few days prior ,or he would not have been able to make this statement.
God had called his (peculiar) people apart, (
For thou art an holy people unto thy God, and hath chosen thee to be a peculiar people unto himself, above all the nations that are upon the earth.Deuturonomy14:2) and now back to their land; and the first priority of all the commandments was the keeping of the SABBATH. Again in Exodus 16:29 "See, for that hath given you the Sabbath, therefore he giveth you on the sixth day the bread of two days; abide ye every man in his place, let no man go out of his place on the seventh day". This happened before the Commandments were issued at Sinai. Some may think that any day will satisfy God, but left no doubt about the day he wanted observed, he told and showed Israel exactly which day was the Sabbath. For 40 years (over 2000 weeks) a double portion of manna fell on the sixth day, and no manna fell on the Sabbath, until Israel entered the promised land (Exodus 16:35, Joshua 5:12).

Remember the SABBATH day, to keep it holy...” even “thy stranger within thy gates”.
Exodus 20 : 8 - 10.
“Six days thou shalt labour, and do all thy work: but the the seventh day is the SABBATH of thy God :"

WHY?
"For in six days made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore blessed the sabbath day,and hallowed it." Exodus 20:11 ;Deuteronomy 5 : 13,14.

Exodus 31:12  And spake unto Moses, saying,
[13] Speak thou also unto the children of Israel, saying, Verily my sabbaths ye shall keep: for it is a sign between me and you throughout your generations; that ye may know that I am that doth sanctify you.
[14] Ye shall keep the sabbath therefore; for it is holy unto you: every one that defileth it shall surely be put to death: for whosoever doeth any work therein, that soul shall be cut off from among his people.
[15] Six days may work be done; but in the seventh is the sabbath of rest, holy to : whosoever doeth any work in the sabbath day, he shall surely be put to death.
[16] Wherefore the children of Israel shall keep the sabbath, to observe the sabbath throughout their generations, for a perpetual covenant.
[17] It is a sign between me and the children of Israel for ever: for in six days made heaven and earth, and on the seventh day he rested, and was refreshed.
[18]  And he gave unto Moses, when he had made an end of communing with him upon mount Sinai, two tables of testimony, tables of stone, written
with the finger of God."

"Moreover also I gave them my sabbaths, to be a sign between me and them, that they might know that I am that sanctify them."Ezekiel 20:12
" And hallow my sabbaths; and they shall be a sign between me and you, that ye may know that I am your God."
Ezekiel 20:20
Scripture never once tells of God erasing or retracting his commandments.
