Law 7

We Reap the Full Harvest Of the Good Seed Sown, Only if We Persevere

  • We need to study and know more of the Scriptures.
  •  Understanding them correctly only with God's help;
  •  Then carefully and accurately handling, and applying the truth we have discovered. "Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth." II Timothy 2:15

We Then Must Persevere.

"And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not. As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith." Galatians 6:9-10

  • The Saviour explained: "The sower soweth the word.
    And these are they by the way side, where the word is sown; but when they have heard, Satan cometh immediately, and taketh away the word that was sown in their hearts.
    And these are they likewise which are sown on stony ground; who, when they have heard the word, immediately receive it with gladness;
    And have no root in themselves, and so endure but for a time: afterward, when affliction or persecution ariseth for the word's sake, immediately they are offended.
    And these are they which are sown among thorns; such as hear the word,
    And the cares of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, and the lusts of other things entering in, choke the word, and it becometh unfruitful.
    And these are they which are sown on good ground; such as hear the word, and receive it, and bring forth fruit, some thirtyfold, some sixty, and some an hundred."
    Mark 4:14-20
    • When doing what is right, we are always faced with battling the forces of evil. This is illustrated in the life of Nehemiah when he led the people in rebuilding the walls of Jerusalem. "They which builded on the wall, and they that bare burdens, with those that laded, every one with one of his hands wrought in the work, and with the other hand held a weapon."  Nehemiah 4:17.  We must do good, watch and persevere.

    We need this exhortation due to our natural tendency:

    Paul's words warn and encourage us against giving up when we should be persevering.

    a) refers to an occasion, that is, set or proper time: - X always, opportunity, (convenient, due) season, (due, short, while) time, a while.

    b) this is God's appointed time, and cannot be changed by us.

    Note the word "opportunity"  used in verse 10 is the same word used in verse9 for "due season".

    Perseverance comes :

    a) from knowing God through the Word and leaning on His promises by faith.

    b) down to our faith focused on the Lord; his commands and promises,as found in his word.

    "For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope." Romans 15:4

    "Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of Yahovah, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord." 1 Corinthians 15:58

    "My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations; Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience. But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing." James 1:2-4

    "Yahovah will perfect that which concerneth me: thy mercy, O Yahovah, endureth for ever: forsake not the works of thine own hands." Psalm 138:8
